Climate Tracker | Local Solutions Journalism Fellowship

Over the last three years, One Earth and Climate Tracker have worked together to support young journalists through global reporting fellowships. These fellowships have provided a much-needed opportunity to young journalists from around the world, allowing them to highlight climate solution stories in their region.

During our first fellowship period, we were able to bring together five mid-career journalists from India, Kenya, Argentina, the UK, and Canada over a 10-month fellowship from May 2019 to February 2020. The fellows included Janet Murikira, from Kenya, Kartik Chandramouli, from India; Naomi Larsson, from the UK; Julian Reingold from Argentina; Allison Gacad from Canada. Collectively, the fellows wrote a total of 50 stories and received mentoring, training, and guidance to publish solutions-focused stories on climate change from the Climate Tracker team, and a special guest mentor, Ping Manongdo, an editor with Eco-Business. After completing her fellowship, Allison remarked;

Thanks to the support of One Earth, Climate Tracker was able to extend this fellowship opportunity, bringing in young writers such as Vaishnavi Rathore and supporting Khartik Chandramouli to join Climate Tracker's team to report live in Poland, at the COP24 negotiations in Katowice.

For our current fellowship period, we are proudly supporting Marcela Maria Martins de Souza from Brazil; Watsemba Miriam from Uganda, Ishita Yadav from India, Lillian Keneqa, our first-ever journalism fellow from Papua New Guinea. The fellows are focused on uncovering innovative solutions to biodiversity, agriculture, and the energy transition.
