The Indochina Mixed Forests & Peatlands bioregion is located in the Southeast Asian Forests subrealm of Indomalaya and contains 15 terrestrial ecoregions – Red River Freshwater Swamp Forests [1], Northern Vietnam Lowland Rainforests [2], Northern Annamites Rainforests [3], Southern Annamites Montane Rainforests [4], Southern Vietnam Lowland Dry Forests [5], Southeastern Indochina Dry Evergreen Forests [6], Central Indochina Dry Forests [7], Tonle Sap-Mekong Peat Swamp Forest [8], Tonle Sap Freshwater Swamp Forests [9], Cardamom Mountains Rainforests [10], Chao Phraya Lowland Moist Deciduous Forests [11], Chao Phraya Freshwater Swamp Forests [12], Northern Thailand-Laos Moist Deciduous Forests [13], Luang Prabang Montane Rainforests [14], Northern Khorat Plateau Moist Deciduous Forests [15], Indochina Mangroves [16], South China Sea Islands [17] – totaling approximately 90.5 million hectares of land area. This bioregion also includes the South China Sea Islands (267) and surrounding marine areas.
