The Baja California bioregion, located within the larger Mexican Drylands subrealm of Northern America, includes most of the Baja Peninsula and the scorching deserts of southern California. The bioregion contains four ecoregions – Baja California Desert (426), Gulf of California Xeric Scrub (431), Mojave Desert (433), Sonoran Desert (435) – and adjacent marine areas in the Gulf of California and the Pacific Ocean. The total land area of this bioregion is approximately 45 million hectares.
